Whoa.

The amount of concentration and steadiness of hand involved here is INSANE.

Last Thursday in my class, the teacher gave each of us a piece of 300-lb. paper. Really nice stuff. She told us to, in class, make a beach scene that incorporated the following elements: sand, rocks, trees, grass, a stormy sky, a lighthouse, and a lightkeeper's cottage. I did mine wet-on-wet, really, really loose and tried to avoid getting bogged down in details like I normally do. I did I did a fairly good job. I mean, it has lots of problems, but I'm happy with it.

The other girl in my class didn't know what a lighthouse looked like, and then the poor thing literally spent about an hour sketching out what she was going to paint. We kept telling her to just take the brush and start painting, it was okay, it wasn't for a grade or anything, but she was almost in tears because she "can't do that." She's a really sweet person. Anyway, I had mine almost done before she started painting. It's a really fun class, I'm sad that this week is our last class.

FINALLY I finished Marrakesh Night Market. I am SO happy that I am done with it. I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out, but I do not CARE, I'm just glad I'm done.

Painting behind cut )

I had to take a pic while mom held it up, so it's a little crooked and whatnot, but no matter. You can't tell, but there's gum arabic on all cabochons to make them shiny, as well as bronze leaf on the lower mirror.

EDIT: I realized after I went to bed last night that this picture was taken before I put the bronze leaf on, so ignore what I said about that. :)

ART STUFF YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Sorry for the crappy picture quality and glare on the frog painting.

Here is my frog! I call him Crunchy.

I didn't feel like the photo showed his eye to its best advantage, so here is a scan of it:

And in class today, I did a little wet-on-wet experiment and tried to keep it fairly spontaneous, so here's my Geisha:

For this week's [livejournal.com profile] arteests challenge: "Draw an orange that looks like a battleship, or a battleship that looks like an orange." Or something.

Warning: Bigass Picture )

Some credit for this goes to [livejournal.com profile] milestogo13. I was struggling with finding any sort of servicable idea, and this is what he came up with. I just drew it (and colored it in ArcSoft Photostudio).

So, in the chat channel I belong to (all you #lothies know what I'm talkin' about, yeah!) my username is Hairball.

Keely sometimes reads over my shoulder, and the Channel Inhabitants know HER as Doomie or Doomkin.

So, without further ado, I present...bum bum BUUUUMMM!...Doomkin and Hairy! )

This week's [livejournal.com profile] arteests challenge was to create two tarot cards.

They might be a little late, but I only just finished. Went with a Native American theme. Because I felt like it, that's why.

This week's [livejournal.com profile] arteests challenge was a self portrait.

The painting (made with watercolor pencils and a bunch of spatter from a toothbrush, because I was bein' silly) doesn't really look much like me, so I included the sketch, which kinda DOES look like me...well, moreso than the painting, at any rate. They are both very tiny and I'm not sure why, since they weren't that small when I scanned them. Weirdness.

This week's [livejournal.com profile] arteests challenge was illustrate a scene from your favorite book. I did a scene from the first book in the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Behind the cut is a little bit of the text that goes with this particular scene as well.

Firestick )

I am sort of unhappy with how the coloring job turned out. Coloring has never been my strong point, and covering an entire paper with colored pencils without it looking grainy is very difficult. *shrug* Anyway. I liked the line drawing quite a bit.

Art from the most recent [livejournal.com profile] arteests challenge. This week was "marsupial dragons." Yeah, I don't know what those are, either. But I don't draw dragons very often at all, and Rainy wanted it to be colorful, so...here's my marsupial dragon, "Mardrag," because I'm original like that, looking very much like a parrot with scales. I tried to make him look a little like a koala, but I don't think that happened. Oh well.

In #loth, they were drawing dwarf pinups (don't ask), so I decided to do one as well. Unfortunately, she doesn't look like a dwarf, but a human woman who's just a bit pudgy. Ah well.

Edit: Um...wow. I'm frankly amazed at the response the Holy Carp has received. Thank you, everyone who's commented. I'm glad I was able to amuse you! :)
