ART STUFF YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Sorry for the crappy picture quality and glare on the frog painting.

Here is my frog! I call him Crunchy.

I didn't feel like the photo showed his eye to its best advantage, so here is a scan of it:

And in class today, I did a little wet-on-wet experiment and tried to keep it fairly spontaneous, so here's my Geisha:

Had a really funky dream last night.

I dreamt that, when it was dark out, a demon inhabited our living room. The way our house is set up is that the room I'm in right now (family room, I guess) is connected to the dining room, foyer, and kitchen. Before he died, my dad built an addition...another living room thing attached to this room. It's all open, there's no real doorway, just a wide opening. That living room goes straight out to a deck, and it was that living room that was inhabited by this demon.

Now, this creature didn't want to hurt me, I don't think, but he kinda made me crazy. He was sort of a like a muse. I would go into the living room and see his face staring out of a hole in the air. There would be painting supplies (oils, even though I don't use oils) and also things like dismembered dolls. The weirdest part is, I would take the stuff out on the deck and put the canvas on the ground 15 feet below the deck. I'd attach myself to a bungee cord and fill a brush with paint and over the railing I'd go. According to witnesses, it was quite impressive, because I wasn't scared, I'd stretch out my body to the fullest extent and my teeth would come within a squinch of the canvas as I slashed the hell out of it with my brush.

Then I'd glue doll parts all over it and it would be a masterpiece (albeit a really freaky one).

We're back! Mom drove the whole way up and back, so she's beat, and for some reason I'm tired too, but I am babysitting Ethan at 6 tonight. The service was nice (in a Baptist sort of way), though a little heavy on the prayers and hymns (which I guess could be defined as the Baptist sort of way...). It was really nice seeing my cousins, some whom I've not seen for several years. Last time I saw Elizabeth and Victoria ("The Queens," as we call them), they were 5 and 3...now they're "seven and a half" and "five and an inch." I asked if they remembered me and Elizabeth said, "Yes. Victoria, do you remember cousin Nelli? I fell asleep on her last time." I remember that, too. My arm hurt for 3 days.

My cousin who lives with Grandma and her daughter (who is very autistic) made it up from Oregon, and J. remembered my name and was very excited to see me again, and even held several conversations with me, which is progress, since she's usually very withdrawn. As soon as she saw me she said, "Melly! Melly!" and gave me a hug, and later when we all went to the house she said "Nelli! Play with me!" Her mom told me she'd be going "Nelli my cousin! Nelli my cousin!" before we got there, too.

The Queens and John (who is 8 or so, I guess...3rd grade, at any rate) were being very rambunctious last night in the chapel (after the service, during the potluck), and in the house where everyone except us was staying, and this morning when we went by to visit before coming home. The Queens' dad took the girls outside to play, since it was warm enough to snow, and I asked John if he wanted to go outside too.

Me: Aren't you going to go out and play with the girls?

John: *drily* I'm not really an Outside person.

*eyeroll*

It was really cold upcountry...-50 last night. It warmed up to about -20 this morning. Now we're back home, where it's a balmy 0 degrees farenheit. Ahh, blessed warmth.

We also took Summer with us, and I think she is glad to be home, too, where her paws don't hurt when she goes outside. I guess this would be where we annouce that we've decided to keep her (though mom says she may change her mind if Summer chews up anything vital).

I am very glad to be home.

P.S. Thank you all for your consideration and thoughts on my painting ideas. I believe I will do dancers, costumed either in authentic cultural dress or something a little more fantastic. I may only do 2 larger paintings or one huge one, so I can get more detail in. *hugs*

Tomorrow mom and I are driving up to Tok for a funeral. My aunt's ex-husband died. I didn't know him all that well, I think we're going mainly because his kids are all gonna be there, and some grandkids, and we haven't seen some of them for a couple years. So, anyway, I'll be gone tomorrow and most of Saturday. Miss you all!

And, since I'm here and all, on Thursdays I have a watercolor class through the college. We're doing one painting in class and we have to do another one outside of class. The paper we do our outside painting on has to be 22x30", and we can do one painting, cut the paper in half and do two, or cut it into quarters and do four. I'm leaning toward four, since I'm more used to working small (though I may change my mind). So I'm thinking to do some sort of theme. I was going to do the Seasons or something, but then I thought up some others. So I'll put it to a vote. I won't promise to actually do whichever one gets the most votes, because I'm contrary like that, but I'm curious.

So far, my choices are as follows:

Seasons
Dancers (a Chinese dancer, a Hula Dancer, maybe a Belly Dancer or something...you get the idea)
Masks (again, from different cultures)
Cultural costumes

Feel free to make other suggestions, too. :)
