Yesterday, mom and I went to Gabriel's first birthday party. There were a jillion people crammed into Mel's little trailer. It was fun, though. Mel made homemade chili and two cakes, a small one for Gabe and a big one for everyone else. She was hoping Gabriel would smash his face down into the cake, but he mostly just played delicately in the frosting. I taped him with Mel's video camera until the battery ran out, at which point the kid got really into the cake and somehow wound up with frosting on his forehead and eyelashes, as well as his aunt.

Mel has finally gotten an offer on her trailer from a friend, so she's selling it to him and moving to Anchorage in about 6 weeks. As a result, she needs to get rid of one of her dogs, the 2-year-old purebred golden retriever, Summer. So, mom and I brought her home as a trial sort of thing last night, and we've decided to foster her for a while and see if it'll work out for us or if we'll need to find her another home. Ink doesn't like her very much, but I think it's just because she's a little rambunctious. She'll hopefully settle down a little when she gets used to being here. She's a precious thing, so friendly, and she LOVES people and cats, but Ink scares her a little. He's hissed at her and swiped at her a few times, and even though he's declawed, she probably got her feelings hurt.

She has to sleep with me (as she's slept with Mel since she was a puppy) and she chews things when she's alone, but...we'll see.
