You touched on the reason why I dislike most literary analysis classes—they always seem to be all about reading layers of meaning into something that, as often as not, appears to be very straightforward. Why is it that English professors never accept the possibility that someone just doesn't like sponge cake?

On a side note, what exactly is sponge cake?
