Lynn wanted more work stories...I'll try to think of some...

First of all, mini-rant:

WHAT THE HELL PART OF "DON'T STAND ON THE BENCHES OR SIT ON THE SEAT BACKS" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?????

There was a guy today who was on the bow, looking back toward Columbia Glacier, and he stood on the bench and SAT ON THE RAILING while taking a picture. I grabbed his arm and he snapped the picture, then stepped down and said "Just for the picture" and smiled. I smiled too, gritting my teeth.

End mini-rant.

Y'know, I think that the humpbacks have learned to recognize Stan's boat and whenever they see it, they say, "Hey! Watch this. See that boat about a mile away? I'm gonna start jumping out of the water and then that boat will come rushing over here and then I'll dive and disappear and that boat will still be here for an hour looking for me. Yes, they will. Don't believe me? Watch!"

I um...can't really think of any work stories just now...kinda tired. I'll try and do better later. Sorry, Lynn ;)

I love hearing your stories because, knowing tourists, I keep wondering if they left their common sense at home?

Near as I can tell, that's a great big YES.

Much of the time, they're fine, intelligent people. But sometimes...I despair for the human race. I've seen parents picking up their children to stand them on the seats for pictures and to see over other people. The kids are like, "Mom, I can't stand up here, it's not allowed" and the parents reply, "Oh, they don't mean it, honey."

I'm always just like, "Um...actually, yes we do."

o.o good grief... that means that there is a chance the human race will survive! So long as the kids don't take to their parents' stupidity. o.o Stupidity doesn't always breed. o.O O.o -.- o.o O.O @_@

Oh, my GOD!!! "They don't mean it"?!!!??! It's stuff like that that makes me want to smack them. What they do a lot here is they'll visit the fire station and we don't mind talking to them for a couple minutes, but not too long because, yes, we're working, but they will either overstay their welcome and then get offended when we say we need to get back to work or there will be a 911 call while they're there and they'll get huffy when we completely ignore them to do the call. Ugh. I wish the ratio of nice tourists to stupid tourists was a lot better than it is. :oP

Yeah...most of them this year have been fairly good, but there have been a few...

My friend Nina was telling me about a family on the boat yesterday with like 4 kids who were running wild. These kids were playing in the heads and running around and knocking over peoples' trays (causing at least 2 families to move to get away). Nina tried talking to the kids, then she tried talking to the parents, who promptly fell asleep 15 minutes later leaving the kids to run amok once more. Apparently the comments in the logbook were along the lines of "Great trip, but you need to corral the kids."

Ugh, that is so evil. Like it's your job to take care of their kids. When does this job get over for you? At the end of the summer? What do you do after that?

The last day of work is September 19th, so on the 20th Nina and I are driving back to Oregon, then I'm going to Wyoming with another friend of ours to live for a year. Dunno what we'll do there. Cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess :)
