[livejournal.com profile] malhablada posted today about some dreams she's had, so I thought I would do the same, since dreams are interesting things.

I'm the sort of dreamer that, when I tell people about my dreams, they shake their heads and say, "You're weird." My roommate does that anyway, even if my dream is, "I went to school and then I realized I didn't have a pencil and then I got all sweaty and nervous and started panicking and then I woke up."

But most of my dreams are in full color, and involve feelings of flying. There have been a couple times when my dreams seemed to last forever, and when I woke up, they were still clear as could be, and I was able to write about them. I'm not much of a writer, but these dreams felt like epics. So clear and real.

More often, I get the dreams that are still clear, but so bizarre that it doesn't even occur to me that they might be real. The other day I dreamt that I was one of the dancing hippos from Fantasia (probably not THAT shocking, since my middle name is NOT Slim'n'graceful) and that my roommate was a ferret who wanted to be a lounge singer. And we were in Hawaii, in a hut made of bamboo.

But I have had some scary dreams, too. After I saw Jurassic Park, every time I fell asleep there were raptors chasing me through my house. They would crash in through the bay windows, chase me down the hallway, and I'd lock them in my bedroom. Then I'd go out to our big garage and there would be a T-rex locked inside.

I really hate the zombie dreams. Zombies freak the hell out of me, and it really almost feels like a betrayal when my brain brings them up. Same thing with vampires, though for some reason I don't find them quite as horrifying. I did have a dream once where I was turned into a vampire. I knew that my bloodlust would get stronger and stronger and I would wind up killing someone I loved, so in the dream I said goodbye to my mother and brother and told them I had to leave forever and they shouldn't try to find me. They begged me not to go, but I had to, so I turned and walked into the woods and didn't look back. I was crying when I woke up.

Then there are the sex dreams--though in my case, they're more like Hugging dreams. Soooo pathetic. But I do wake up feeling like someone loves me. So I'll take what I can get.

My roomie has boring dreams, like about work. She works at a bank. Once she said to me and her bf, "I had a horrible dream, you guys. I dreamt I was short." She's 5'1". I was like, "Um...honey? Sorry to tell you this, but you ARE short."

She had meant that her cash drawer was short at work. Heh. Oops.

She has had a few recurring dreams. One of the worst ones is about pirates. If anyone has ever seen that Garfield Halloween special with the ghost pirates and Garfield and Odie hiding in the cupboard, picture dreaming about that only you're Garfield and the pirates are killing everyone you love.

I've had a couple recurring dreams, too. The dinosaur dream I mentioned above, and one where I am being pursued through the woods by something, I don't know what it is, but I'm not that scared because I know it won't hurt me. There's another one where I'm right outside a mountain cave and something's rushing at me, but this time it DOES want to hurt me, but I can't move. My feet stick to the ground and I fall down and can't get up.

My favorite recurring dream is one I've had since I was a little girl. Do you remember those little Precious Moments dolls, with the big sad eyes? In this dream, I'm a little Precious Moments girl, and I'm floating down a river in a gondola with a little Precious Moments boy, and we drift under a weeping willow. We don't talk, we just relax. It's a short dream, but I like it. Yes, I am a goody-two-shoes.

I dreamt once about a place...I've never seen the like. I was running on a beach, then suddenly I reached a corridor. There was no roof, just sheer rock cliffs on either side, with waterfalls cascading down the cliffs between statues of beautiful robed women. The corridor was short, and when it ended, it opened onto a vast shimmering green jungle, framed in the distance by blue mountains. That was one of my real dreams. I liked that one.

I rarely remember mine... and the ones I do usually freak me out. Like where I was trapped in a flooding basement and woke up right before the water hit the ceiling.

I used to have the falling dream all the damn time, but it was more of a sensation where I jerk awake in my bed and feel disoriented.

only dreams I remember from when I was little was

1) alien in a box appears on the doorstep of my friend where I was sleeping over and chases me and I hide in my bed. It was a dream in a dream, so I thought I woke up and my bed was shaking and then I really did.

2) something involving alien bounty hunters...

the odd thing is I wasn't ever really interested in aliens as a kid...
