More peektures

We left off, last time, right before Summer was injured. As most of you know, she was injured from jamming a stick down her throat and creating a hole in her soft palate. Afterward, she started vomiting blood (and everything else she'd eaten that day). It was scary, even though she seemed to be staying fairly calm throughout, and was obviously able to breathe.

A couple days later, as we were unsuccessful in our efforts to get her to eat, we took her to another vet to get a feeding tube installed.

As you can see, she was thrilled.

We even got her a protective cone.

She perked up when we were finally able to feed her...so much so that, within a few days, she got so rambunctious that she managed to dislodge the tube again. A day or so later, we started noticing an odd smell, like rotting food. We thought it was some of the food we'd accidently spilled on the bandage, but we took her into another vet's, just to make sure. Good thing, too.

I won't post the picture of her infected wound here, but I have one. Make no mistake. And the photo I do have was actually taken a few days later while we changed the bandage, and had healed quite a bit. Still gross, though.

The vet told us to put hot compresses on her neck, over the bandage, 2 or 3 times a day. Sum was very excited.

We also graduated her from her cone collar, which she really didn't like, to a slightly more comfortable option...the Bite Not.

The Bite Not performed two funtions...it held the bandage securely in place, and it protected the bandage and her neck from any scratching she might feel compelled to do.

Let me tell y'all, this is turning out to be one expensive dog. But she's worth it.

We visited Charley in Portland, of course, the day after we returned to the States. This is him drinking a stout float at a place we went to eat dinner, and have been back to several times since.

We drove down the coast and stopped at my favorite beach in the whole state, the beach at Heceta Head lighthouse.

Mom, Summer and I also traveled down to visit my grandpa in Burney, where my uncle took us to Burney Falls.

See if you can look closely at Summer's face...if that isn't scary, I don't know what is.

Then we went to visit my uncle's place on the river, and see his critters. As you can see, my uncle is a completely serious man lacking any sense of humor.

And I like this picture. I don't know what, exactly, it is...some fluffy stuff in one of the pastures.

We did eventually return to Oregon and McMinnville, even though Summer greatly enjoyed our travels.

And next time I'll show you some pictures of McMinnville itself, as well as the apartment I'm in. I hope you've enjoyed this episode of Picspam by Nelli.
